ancient skincare rituals, stemming from rich
culture, that feed your skin.
A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER
As a young girl, I loved nothing more than watching my mother pamper herself. I was enchanted by her rituals, from her skincare, bedtime, and hair care routines to her obsession and experimentation with fragrances. My mother is the reason I love all things beauty—she is why I have a place in my heart just for Qasil.
Growing up Somali meant that Qasil was a household staple. It was the first thing my mother would ask for whenever anyone visited from back home. Eventually, I gave it a try, and the softness and that lit-from-within glow meant that I could never look back.
In essence, Glean is a tribute to my roots. During my frequent visits back home, I would find myself captivated by the richness of East African beauty rituals. With Glean, I get to bring some of that richness to you. In a time where skincare feels like a guessing game, nothing beats trusted traditions passed down from generation to generation.
“Nothing beats trusted traditions passed down from generation to generation.”
OUR QASIL IS GROWN, PRODUCED, AND ETHICALLY SOURCED IN HARGEISA, SOMALILAND.
HOW IT’S HARVESTED
Using leaves from the Gob tree, farmers take the leaves and allow them to dry in nice, large piles. After about 2 days of drying, the leaves are gently shaken off the branches and then ground into a fine powder that gets filtered and refined into our wonderful product.
The Qasil plant grows new leaves every month, and we never overharvest, reducing exploitation and harmful harvesting practices.
The communities of Somaliland that produce Qasil plants and create Qasil powder use leftover branches and materials from the harvest to build other mainstays for the community. The production benefits the communities as well, which is why we only source in Somaliland.
